2004 Las Vegas Reunion Banquet "Business Meeting" A "business meeting" was held on Saturday morning with about thirty former cadets in attendance. Since we don't have an association or a secretary, there were no "official" minutes taken at this meeting. Jack Gwynne '66 served as the chairman. Below are the key actions that were taken at the meeting. Based upon the small showing in Las Vegas, the consensus of the group was that reunions should be held near Aledo or in locations that are central to a majority of alumni. Therefore, the attendees voted to hold the next reunion in Illinois (Chicago or Moline/Aledo) in 2006. We will hold an online vote in the future to determine the preferred geographic location. We will also be asking for volunteers to serve as a Reunion Committee to be the host. The final decision on the dates and location will be based upon the response to these questions. (Vote on your choice for the 2006 reunion.) Everyone felt that forming an official organization would make it easier to make decisions, such as future reunion venues, and to provide some leadership management to execute reunions and any other undertakings the membership may wish. A By-Laws Committee was appointed to investigate the requirements to form an association and to draft a constitution/bylaws which could be presented to the RMA community for comments and a determination whether we should go forward. The By-Laws Committee consists of Mike Vagi' 60, Jack Gwynne '66 , Bob Fritz '65, Larry Velvel, '50 and Larry Eltoft '71. Gary Weaver '69 suggested that a possible fundraising project for the new Association would be to refurbish one of the cannons from the RMA campus which is currently on display in front of the Mercer County Museum. It hasn't been painted in some time and is getting rusty. Someone else pointed out that another old RMA cannon in a park behind Mercer County Hospital might also need some work. Another cadet mentioned that he had talked to someone at Rock Island Arsenal and thought it might be able to be repainted there. He said he would follow up on that possibility. |
