2006 RMA REUNION

Events on "The Slab"

Gene Shalander '50 had organized a number of contests to be held on "The Slab" on Saturday.  The most interesting was the Beer Drinking Contest.  Much to the surprise of the contestants, they were handed a baby bottle with 4 ounces of beer and were told to start sucking.  Joe Raimond '57 was the champion.

On a more serious note, a Remembrance Ceremony was held in which the names of all known deceased cadets were read aloud from the steps of North Barracks.  Taps was then played by JP Kelly, a 17-year old senior from Aledo High School.

The final event on the campus was the traditional "drill-off" where cadets got to show off how much they remembered (or didn't remember) about drill and ceremonies.  This was the first time we were able to hold this event on "The Slab", where for forty years, the Cadet Battalion formed up several times each day.  It is also "fondly" remembered as the place where cadets got to march around for hours working off their demerits.  The drillmaster was Mitch Russo '60. The winner of the contest was Joe Raimond '57.  (Could that have anything to do with Joe's having just won the Beer Drinking Contest--all 4 ounces--prior to the drill-off?)
