The Association Gains Tax-Exempt Status

The association has been notified by the Internal Revenue Service that the application filed by Treasurer Jerry Feitler for tax-exempt status has been approved.  As a not-for-profit social organization, we are now exempt from Federal income tax under section 501 (c) (4) of the Internal Revenue Code.  (However, as we are not a public charity or foundation as described by section 501 (c) (3) of the Code, donations to the association are not tax-deductable.)

The Date and Location Have Been Set
for the 2008 RMA All-Class Reunion

The RMA Reunion Committee, headed up by Rick Bogoff '70, has announced the next biannual RMA reunion will take place on August 15-17, 2008, in Northbrook, Illinois, (about 14 miles north of O'Hare Airport).  Mark  that date on your calendar and we will be publishing more information as it becomes available.

You can make your reservations for the reunion at the Radisson Hotel. When making your reservation, mention the ROOSEVELT MILITARY ACADEMY REUNION to get the contract rate of $94.00 (plus tax) per night. Please call the local number, 847.298.2525, when making your reservation or if you have any questions for them.  If you qualify for a senior or military discount, mention it at the time you make your reservation, and ask if the rate is available. If so, you will have to pay for the room charges up front and not when you check-in.  If not, then you need to clarify the reunion rate with them so that you get the contract rate.  Please direct any questions you may have to Rick Bogoff.

An RMA Postal Stamp is Now Available

RMA Historian Gene Shalander was thinking it was a shame there was no US postal stamp memorializing Roosevelt Military Academy, so he took matters in his own hands.  You can order them from Gene now

THE ASSOCIATION NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Candidates Needed to Serve as Association Leaders For the Next Two Years

Here is your chance to influence the future direction of the Rough Rider Association.  We need you to recommend candidates for the election of officers at the reunion in August.  We encourage you to take a mental look at your classmates and think about who would make a good president, vice president, treasurer or secretary.  Send your recommendation(s)--with a statement of why you are recommending a particular person for a particular position--to Mel Bogus '47, the Nominating Committee Chair. (As a courtesy, your should contact any member you are recommending to be sure he is willing to be considered by the committee.)

Volunteers Needed to Serve on the Nominating and Bylaws Review Committees

The Nominating Committee is charged with accepting recommendations from the membership for candidates for president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer of the association for a two year term beginning in August 2008.  The committee will review the nomination information provided, and prepare a report for submission to the membership at the business meeting.  If you would like to help with this important work, contact the Nominating Committee Chair, Mel Bogus '47.

The Bylaws Review Committee has been charged by the association officers to review the current Constitution and Bylaws and recommend changes based upon the experiences of operating the association during its first two years.  The committee will also consider any recommendations submitted by members, as well as those resulting from a review of the current bylaws by a professional parliamentarian.  Over the past two years there have been several discussions in the web page Forum about shortcomings in the bylaws and this is your chance to help make the necessary changes.  If you would like to help with this project, contact the Bylaws Review Chair, Bob Fritz '65.  (The current Constitution and Bylaws can be viewed here.)

RMA Bumper Sticker

Hi,  Rough Riders!  Remember the bumper stickers that we all had on our parents cars when we went home for summer vacation? Well, I am very pleased to announce that a new, revised version of the original bumper sticker is now available and any profits that may result from this special project will be donated to the RMA Memorial Fund. The stickers themselves are 3”x 11”, printed on high quality vinyl with solvent inks and have an outdoor life of up to 6 years.

The cost per sticker is $6, which includes shipping and handling costs. However, if you purchase in quantity, you can save some money. Order 5 bumper stickers for $27 (a $3 savings) or 10 for $55 (a $5 savings).

They are available now so get your order in before they are gone. You can pay by money order, personal check or thru PayPal if you have an EBay account. For payment thru EBay you must first access your account, then go to the tab “Send Money”, put in my account name “midnight6660” and follow the instructions. Make your check or money order payable to Lloyd Young and send it to:

    THEODORE ROOSEVELT

ROOSEVELT MILITARY ACADEMY is named for Theodore Roosevelt who so ably represents the ideals of American youth.  His magnanimous sprit, commanding personality, alert mind, and abounding physical energy represent our ideals for each cadet who studies at Roosevelt Military Academy.

It is the Purpose of Roosevelt Military Academy to educate boys and aid them in their growth processes.

The Academy strives to develop in each and every cadet qualities of leadership, both academically and socially, that will aid them - not only in a mastery of his formal education - but also in the full development of his physical, social and moral capacities
